The Prism and Artist Palette

Description

One of my assignments that I enjoyed from Advanced Drawing. I'm calling it a 3-D sketch. (My teacher's definition of drawing is pretty loose.) this is actually two assignments in one: 'The Prism' was 'Drawing as Homage' (to Barbara Chase-Riboud, in my case) and the 'Artist's Palette' was 'Drawing as Object.'

'The Prism' was hard as heck to get a good pic of since its mostly black and white. Plus my camera got foggy, I've kinda fixed it since. A big thing with Ms. Chase-Riboud is binary opposition: soft-hard, male-female, dark-light, etc. The bi-opps I chose were pristine-decay and I took elements of her work (braiding/weaving/knotting, planes, and tiles) and made it into something of my own. The most fun was experimenting with the green construction foam and spray paint for the base. I'll definitely be doing it again in future projects.

'Artist's Palette' (bottom right) comes from the tradition of artist's painting/drawing/photographing their desks [and I was running out of time to do another project]. It's simply my sketches, drawings, inspirations and materials I used to make 'The Prism.' I'm actually thinking of doing more of these. I tend to make stuff will working on projects, so it might be cool to just display them.

Materials: Acrylic paint, cotton string, foam (construction and board), ink, spray paint, paper, plexi-glass, tar paper and wood.
